about

Celestial pays homage to the visionary hiphop producer Jun Seba, aka Nujabes, who revolutionized the genre by seamlessly blending jazz with hiphop. On what would have been his 47th birthday, I embarked on creating this tribute track, immersing myself in his original compositions and the works of those he sampled.

One particular gem that resonated profoundly was 'Here's That Rainy Day' by The Paul Horn Quintet, a captivating jazz fusion piece from 1966. Nujabes ingeniously sampled it for his iconic score in the anime series Samurai Champloo. Drawing inspiration from this classic, I crafted a raw, atmospheric boom bap beat, using the intro loop as its foundation and intertwining it with subtle chops from other sampled tunes and my own live instrumentation.

In the spirit of preserving Nujabes' legacy, Celestial is more than just a tribute—it's a sonic journey that I hope resonates with fellow admirers of his groundbreaking artistry.
